MORE SOUTHERN CROSS PROGRESS (click to enlarge photo)

Following the successful wing tests, HARS has forged ahead and reached a further milestone in the restoration to airworthiness of the Fokker F7/3M Southern Cross 2 with the delivery by Project Manager Geoff Timms of the spruce wood to begin the rebuild of the one piece wooden wing, and his collection of the three fully  overhauled and ready to fly propellors for the aircraft.  The aircraft fuselage also recently attended (on a truck) the 80th anniversary celebrations of the 1933 takeoff by the original Southern Cross from Seven Mile Beach at Gerroa NSW of its famous flight to New Zealand.

I have a few images of the restoration of the Southern Cross by RAAF personael ( circa 1945).
My father Hubert George Jamieson was an LAC on the project.
The airfield is believed to be Fairbain , Canberra?
Images feature Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.GG.
Should you have any interest and or additional info, I would be pleased to make contact.

    Hi Neil

I have photos of the same aircraft at RAAF Fairbairn Canberra in 1945 being prepared for the film “Smithy” in 1945 (Running up near to Dutch Mitchell Bombers, Flying formation with the camera toting Avro Anson). Taken by Bill Collins RAAF. Your photos sound complementary and would be of interest to us. Bring them in one day and we will compare.
    Regards
